SFYSA | Programs: Jazz

The SFYSA is pleased to offer two Jazz Ensembles. The Miles Davis Jazz Ensemble is an advanced group, The Charlie Parker Jazz Ensemble is a beginner/intermediate group. Both are directed by David Parlato. The ensembles are open to young musicians who are interested in jazz. All instruments are welcome!

Requirements for Participation
Students must be presently taking private lessons and/or participate daily in their school band program. They also need to have at least 2 years playing experience, with some experience playing jazz.

Ensemble placement occurs during the first rehearsal of each season. Each student may be required to:
1. play the required pieces (from the audition packet)
2. play a chromatic scale the full range of the instrument
3. sight read and improvise on a short piece selected by the director

Rehearsal Time and Location
The Charlie Parker Ensemble rehearses Thursday evenings from 5:15 - 6:45 p.m. The Miles Davis Ensemble rehearses Thursday evenings from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.
Location: Pink Church Arts Center - 1516 Pacheco St., Santa Fe

Tuition
Tuition for each jazz ensemble is $320 per season, payable in two installments. Students who elect not to continue, before the third rehearsal, will receive a full refund. Payment plans and limited scholarships are available upon request. Scholarship applications are available on the DOWNLOADS page.
